The following is an indications of questions that may be asked during the consultation -

• Do you menstruate?
• Are your menses regular, irregular or do you skip menstruations some months?
• How long is the menstrual cycle?
• How many days does the menstruation last?
• Is the flow from the first day or does it start with spotting and, if so, for how many days do the spotting last?
• Is there spotting after the main flow and, if so, for how many days?
• The nature, volume and appearance of the menstrual flow, colour, bright red, dark red, brownish, etc.
• Is the menstrual flow clotty, stringy, membranous, etc?
• Is the menstruation painful and, if so, before, at commencement or during the flow?
• How severe is the menstrual pain?
• Do you get headaches before, during or after the menstruation?
• Do you have any kind of flow or secretion during the month in between menstruations?
• If so, what is the nature of the flow or secretion, colour, volume, odour (if any) and duration?
• Hystory of Ovarian Cysts or polycystic ovarian syndrome?
• Have you undergone any invasive procedures like surgery of any kind, laparoscopies, IVF, AI ?
• Have you been on any drastic hormonal treatment like, medroxyprogesterone acetate injection treatment (Provera / Depo-Provera), Clomiphene citrate (ClomidTM) or other?
• Have you ever had an abortion or a miscarriage?
• Have you ever had an ectopic pregnancy?
• Candidiasis, frequent cystitis or other urinary tract infections?
• Do you experience stabbing pains during ovulation or menstruation?
• Do your breasts swell, get sensitive and sore during menstruation?
• Have you undergone an special investigations like, sonars or blood tests?
• And others, depending on your particular history and interventions.....
